Creek Downs Alter 3-1 in Season Opener

Beavercreek played their long awaited home opener Friday night against the Alter Knights at the Kettering Rec Center.  It was “Pack the House Night” and the Creek Hockey fans responded by creating an absolutely electric atmosphere.  Mason Mikesch got things going early in the first period with a power play goal that was assisted by Braden Cox and Cole Gutterman.  Later in the second period, Joey Duford skated coast to coast and lit the lamp on a nifty shot, which extended Creeks lead to 2-0.  Unfortunately, the Knights responded with a goal of their own shortly after that on a power play tally that cut the Beavers lead in half to 2-1 going into the break.  Creek came out flying in the third period and were reward for their effort when PJ Kosir put the biscuit in the basket, increasing their lead to 3-1.  The Beavers were able to hang on for the rest of the game, thanks largely to Kevin Bovair who was the Creek net minder and ended up turning away 22 shots.  Next up for your Battling Beavers is another late night affair at the Kettering Rec Center this Friday for what will be their opener to the Frozen Creek Tournament.  The Beavers will be playing four games next weekend, so please come out and support Creek Hockey!!

Creek Defeats NW Eagles 5-3

The Beavers were back at it Sunday morning, playing the NW Eagles for what was their third preseason game up north in as many days.  The boys got their power play working in the first, scoring on their first two opportunities.  Mason Mikesch got things started in the first period with an unassisted tally, while Marshal Enfield lit the lamp a few minutes later on an assist from Thomas Bush.  For good measure, Cole Gutterman intercepted a pass deep in the Eagles end and scored a shorthanded goal.  Unfortunately for the Beavers, three of their four defensemen took turns in the penalty box in the second period (good job Alex Folga for stopping the trend!) and that allowed the Eagles to get back in the game.  Creek bounced back in the third and took the lead for good on a goal by Max Pezzot that was assisted by Mikesch.  Mikesch ended the scoring with a snipe of a shot late in the third, putting the game out of reach.  Kevin Bovair was between the pipes for the Beavers and he turned away 17 shots.  This ends preseason play and your beloved Beavers have their home opener this Friday at 10 PM at the Kettering Rec Center.  Nice weekend of hockey boys!!
