Creek Defeats Indian Hills 3-1 on Faculty Appreciation Day

Beavercreek was back on the ice Sunday afternoon at the Kettering Rec Center for a match up against the Indian Hills Rangers.  It was Faculty Appreciation Day for the Beavers as they paid tribute those who have helped make them be the best possible students and people that they can become.  It was truly a festive day at the rink where both Santa and Bucky were on hand, giving out treats to the good little girls and boys.

The Beavers got things going midway through the first period when Marshal Enfield took a clearing pass from Thomas Bush and snuck a rising wrist shot over the goal tenders shoulder, giving Creek a 1-0 lead.  The Beavers kept the pressure on, however, even though they out shot the Rangers 28-2 for the first two periods, Creek still only had a 1-0 lead at the intermission.

The visitors opened up the third period with a goal of their own, tying the game at one.  However, midway through the third period during a power play opportunity Mason Mikesch gathered the puck around the Rangers’ net, curled in front and beat the goal tender top shelf glove side, giving the Beavers back the lead.  In the waning seconds of the game, Creek took a hooking penalty and the Rangers pulled their goalie to give themselves a 6-on-4 advantage.  During the frantic closing seconds, Enfield was able to backhand a Rangers pass from the Beavers own blue line to an awaiting Mikesch, who in turn put the biscuit in the basket from the red line for an empty net goal.  At this point, Creek had assumed control and held on for the 3-1 victory.  Kevin Bovair and Ben Duford split the time between the pipes for the Beavers.  The Creek net minders did not see a whole lotta shots on the day, however, Freshman Duford got credited with his first Beavercreek Varsity Hockey victory.

Next up for the Beavers is a three game stint next weekend at the Mayor’s Cup, which will be held at South Metro Sports.  First up for Creek is a game Friday night at 9 PM against Troy.  Come out next weekend and support your Battlin’ Beavers!

Creek Downs Stealth 4-1

Beavercreek was back on the ice Friday night for a game against the Dayton Stealth at the Kettering Rec Center.  It had been 13 days since the Beavers last had a game, thanks to their game last Sunday being postponed due to ice issues at Northlands, and the boys were raring to go.  It also was their first home game since Frozen Creek and their fans were also on full display!

Mason Mikesch got things going early in the first when he snuck a shot short side over the goal tender’s right shoulder off a nice pass from Cole Gutterman.  The game remained at 1-0 until late in the first when Thomas Bush got a break away goal off a pass from Marshal Enfield that left the Stealth’s two defensemen sprawled on the ice in their attempt to stop him.  This was Bush’s first game back from an injury that he sustained at Frozen Creek and the fans were happy to see him back on the ice!

Stealth got on the board early in the second period with a power play goal, cutting Creek’s lead in half.  However, late in the period Stealth committed two penalties on the same play, and the Beavers cashed in.  Creek’s patient power play unit’s passing found Mikesch all alone at the top of the circles and he promptly buried the puck underneath the cross bar.  Enfield was credited with the assist on the goal and Beavers had a 3-1 lead going into the intermission.

The Beavers continued their stellar defensive play in the third period and extended their lead when PJ Kosir lit the lamp with a shot that found five hole thanks to a nice screen by Braden Cox.  The goal, which was assisted by Enfield and Bush, proved to be the final tally of the night and the Beavers prevailed 4-1.  Kevin Bovair was the net minder for the Beavers and he turned away 19 shots on the night.  Next up for Creek is a Sunday afternoon game at 3 PM against Indian Hills at the Kettering Rec.  This will also be Faculty Appreciation Day, so please come out to support the Beavercreek Hockey and your teachers!
