The Beavercreek Varsity Hockey Team took 3rd place in the Ehrnfelt Memorial High School Hockey Tournament in Strongsville, OH this past weekend with an absolutely thrilling 4-3 double overtime/shoot-out win in their final game vs the Orange (OH) Lions. Senior Jonnie Ives scored 2 goals, sophomore Shaine Sanders had 2 assists, junior Nick Martin had 1 assist, and junior Ethan Green had 1 goal and 2 assists in regulation as well as the game-winner in the shootout. Senior Brian Daniels had a .942 save percentage with 49 saves and was perfect with 3 shoot-out saves to clinch the game. Sophomores Nick Belmonte and Sammy Donahue along with freshman Joey Duford also contributed some solid shifts and hard work in the team’s 3rd place finish. Goalies senior Scott Hergenrather and freshman Kevin Bovair were also rostered for all games in the tournament.
In their other games the Beavers lost to the Orange Lions 4-6 to start the weekend, came back to tie the Kalamazoo Blades 3-3, and lost 1-4 to Thomas Worthington but managed to win enough points to make it to the 3rd place game.
Sophomore Gram Doherty contributed some solid work in goal for the Beavers vs Orange in game 1 and vs Kalamazoo in game 2, while sophomore Braden Sanders notched a goal in the first Orange game on nice assists from freshman PJ Kosir and senior Jack Belmonte. Jonnie Ives scored on a nice assist from sophomore Chad Peacock, and Jack Belmonte and Ethan Green assisted Nick Martin on a sweet goal to complete Creek’s scoring.
Ethan Green and Jack Belmonte each scored a goal in the Kalamazoo game, and PJ Kosir and Ethan Green assisted Nick Martin on a wonderful goal later in the game. Chad Peacock stepped up to defend his teammates in a scrum late in the game and was originally given a match penalty, but was re-instated after a video review of the incident.
Ethan Green score the lone Beavercreek goal vs Thomas Worthington, and scored 4 goals and had 5 assists for the tournament to lead all Beavercreek players in total points, and Jonnie Ives tallied 3 goals on the weekend. And Head Coach Sean Broderick brought back trophy hardware for a perfect 4th time in 4 tries as a Beavercreek Head Coach, while Assistant Coaches Ryan Timar and Scott Kozlak earned their first trophy as part of the Beavercreek Varsity Hockey coaching staff.

Beavercreek returns home this coming weekend for league battles vs St. Xavier at 10pm Friday Jan. 22 at the Kettering Rec Center, and at 4pm on Sunday Jan. 24 vs Talawanda also at the KRC. The Friday night game will be Fan Appreciation Night with contests, give-aways, and prizes along with all the FUN you’ve come to expect at a Beavercreek Varsity Ice Hockey game including some hard scrabble hockey from your Beavercreek Varsity Ice Hockey team! Sunday will feature our annual “Pink-In-The-Rink” fundraiser to support breast cancer research. A number of very nice prize baskets will be raffled off with all proceeds going to cancer research, so please join us this weekend for some great hockey and lots of FUN! See you there!
