Beavercreek Varsity Ice Hockey Wraps Up the 2014-15 Season

The Beavercreek Varsity Ice Hockey wrapped up a very successful season in a hard fought loss to Troy 4-6 in the District round of the state Ohio High School Athletic Association Hockey Tournament Saturday February 21, 2015 at the Icehaus at Nationwide Arena.  Senior Jake Weideling had a goal and two assists, junior Jonnie Ives also had a goal and two assists, senior and Co-Captain Austin (A.C.) Coleman scored a goal, sophomore Nick Martin scored a goal, and sophomore Ethan Green added an assist.

The Battling Beavers finished the 2014-15 season with a 20-14 record, breaking the 20 win mark for only the 4th time in the team’s 18 year history.  The team set single season team records with a record 145 goals, a record 17.8% shooting percentage, a record 44 power-play goals, and a record 30.1% power-play shooting percentage.  Senior Jake Weideling broke the Beavercreek single season points record with a nicely balanced 46 goals and 47 assists for a record 93 points.  Jake also set team records with 18 power-play goals, 9 points in a game, and tied a team record with 6 goals in a game.  Jake ranked second in the SWOHSHL with 38 points in league play, while senior Austin (AC) Coleman ranked fourth in league play with 32 points.  Senior Brandon Sanders tied a team record for a defenseman with 2 goals in a game while junior Jonnie Ives also tied the record for a defenseman with 2 goals in a game.  Jonnie Ives tied another team record for a defenseman with 4 assists in a game, and set a team record for a defenseman with 5 points in a game.  Junior goalie and Co-Captain Brian Daniels recorded 1004 saves on the season for fourth place in single season saves in the Ohio High School Athletic Association record books (he also holds spots 1 and 2 from prior seasons) and broke former Beavercreek goalie Anthony Dann’s (2004-2008) all time OHSAA career saves record of 2726.  Brian finished the season with a new OHSAA career saves record of 3312.

Head Coach Sean Broderick finished the season with a career record of 52-44-4 and ranks first in career win percentage among all Beavercreek hockey coaches.  Coach Broderick also moved into second place in career wins among all Beavercreek hockey coaches.  Thanks, Coach Broderick, and thanks to Assistant Coaches Josh Baldwin and Lee McClure for all your hard work and dedication this season.  Congrats also to the team for a great year!  You guys were a lot of fun to watch this season.
