The mood was quite festive at the Kettering Rec Center Saturday night for Beavercreek’s SWOHSHL game against the Talawanda Braves. It was Military Appreciation Night and the Beavers donned their new camo jerseys in recognition of this event. We were blessed to have retired MSgt Cynthia Smalls sing the national anthem, while the Bellbrook Color Guard presented Old Glory. We were also fortunate to have Colonel Ron Schwing in attendance to do the ceremonial puck drop. On top of all of this, the Beavercreek High School Pep Band was in attendance and tried to blow the roof off of the building! This all helped the Beavers who had their hands full with the SWOHSHL Gold Division leading Braves. Creek did their best to match Talawanda’s intensity, but had a difficult time getting the puck on net. They were finally rewarded in the third period when freshman Braden Cox slipped a shot past the Braves’ net minder on a pass from Cole Gutterman and PJ Kosir. Gram Dohery was between the pipes for the Beavers and turned away 24 shots. The next game on the docket for Beavercreek is a Sunday afternoon affair at 3:00 against the La Salle Lancers at the Kettering Rec Center.
