Beavercreek found out how hard it is to beat the same team two games in a row, especially in less than a 24 hour period. The Beavers played for third place Monday morning at OBM Arena against the Yellow Jackets, a team that they beat the day before 5-2. Creek started the game a bit flat and found themselves fighting off the rushes from Perrysburg. Despite having the Beavers’ goal tender Gram Doherty at the top of his game (turning away 25 shots on the day), the Yellow Jackets were able to come up with a goal and led 1-0 at the first intermission. The Beavers picked up their game in the second and were rewarded when they crashed the Yellow Jackets net and Tanner King was able to get the puck across the goal line on a pass from Nate Schivelbein. The game was tied at one when late in the third period the Yellow Jackets scored a fluke power play goal on a blast at the top of the circles that eluded Doherty. The Beavers desperately tried to get the equalizer the rest of the period but came up short. Despite the somewhat disappointing end to the tournament, the Beavers are playing some excellent hockey and appear to be poised to finish off this season strong. Next up for Beavercreek is a game Friday night at 10 PM at the Kettering Rec Center against Talawanda. The Beavers be sporting their new slick military appreciation jerseys and the BHS pep band will be in attendance trying to blow the roof off of the building. Come on out Friday night and cheer your Battlin’ Beavers to victory!
