BIG ARENA WEEK for the Beavercreek Varsity Hockey Team!
The Beavercreek High School Varsity hockey team hits the big… Big…BIG! ice this weekend with a league game Friday Dec. 11 at 7pm vs. league and divisional rival Talawanda at the beautiful Miami University Goggin Ice Center (capacity 4000), a game Sunday Dec. 13 at 6pm vs. league and divisional rival St. Xavier in Cincinnati at the venerable Cincinnati Gardens (capacity 11,000), and a game Monday Dec. 14 at 2:30pm vs. Gahana Lincoln in Columbus at the massive Nationwide Arena (capacity 18,500).
Considered one of the nicest collegiate hockey venues in the country, the Goggin Ice Center replaced the old arena of the same name in 2006 and is home to one of the premier college hockey programs in college hockey– the Miami University Redhawks, members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
The wonderful Cincinnati Gardens, built in 1949 and modeled after the Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens, was the 7th largest arena in the country at the time of its opening. The Gardens has hosted a wonderfully eclectic range of guests from Elvis to Richard Nixon to The Beatles to Evel Knievel to Michael Jackson and thousands of other concerts, speeches, and sporting events.
Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL Columbus Blue Jackets, opened in 2000 with the Bluejacket’s first regular season game being played on Oct. 7, 2000 vs the Chicago Blackhawks. Our Battling Beavers get a fantastic opportunity to play on the same ice as the NHL greats of today and the great players (some now Hall of Famers!) from the past 15 years!
Best of luck to the team, and make your hockey road trip plans now to come out and watch your Beavercreek team on big, Big, BIG ice this weekend!
