Creek Celebrates Successful Season at End of Year Banquet


Beavercreek High School Varsity Hockey came together on Friday night to celebrate their successful season at an end of year banquet.  The Beavers ended the season with a 16-14-2-1 record, which included a 3rd place finish at the Miami Valley Freeze, 2nd place finishes at Frozen Creek and at the Mayor’s Cup, and a 1st place finish in the SWOHSHL Gold Division tournament.  This year’s team set a BHS Varsity Hockey record for the least number of penalty minutes (215) and most shutout wins in season (8).  The Beavers also had every active player in the positive on the plus/minus statistic.  Individually, Mason Mikesch set a record for the most goals in a game as a Freshman (5) and Joey Duford tied the record of most goals in a game by a defensemen (2).  Net minder Gram Doherty came just shy of getting a record for the best season save percentage at 92.6%, with the record being 92.8%.  Some of the individual awards handed out at the banquet were:

Rookie of the Year: Mason Mikesch
Most Improved: Max Pezzot
Defensive Player of the Year: PJ Kosir
Offensive Player of the Year: Mason Mikesch
Team MVP: Gram Doherty
SWOHSHL 1st Team All League: Gram Doherty and Chad Peacock
SWOHSHL 2nd Team All League: PJ Kosir and Mason Mikesch
SWOHSHL All League Honorable Mention: Nick Belmonte, Kevin Bovair,  and Cole Gutterman
Charles “Chic” Spagnola Scholarship: Nick Belmonte
Eric Gartz Award: Chad Peacock
Hobey Baker Award: Gram Doherty

The players/managers that were recognized for being 1st team academic all stars were: Braden Cox, Gram Doherty, Marshal Enfield, Cole Gutterman, Alex Folga, Reagan Johnson, Frankie Kosir, PJ Kosir, Maggie Hergenrather, and Mason Mikesch.  Second team academic all stars were: Joe Bordas, Kevin Bovair, and Mara Williford.
