Beavercreek opened up Frozen Creek Tournament play Friday night at the Kettering Rec against the La Salle Lancers. It was a back and forth for the first ten minutes of until La Salle drew first blood and took a 1-0 lead. Creek responded a couple of minutes later when Braden Cox scored a power play goal that was assisted by PJ Kosir and Joey Duford. In the dying seconds of the first period Mason Mikesch scored a power play goal that was assisted by Alex Folga and Creek net minder Kevin Bovair, giving the Beavers a 2-1 lead after one.
Midway through the second period Cole Gutterman tallied an unassisted goal. A minute later Creek got another goal, this one by Mikesch which was assisted by Gutterman and Kosir. The Beavers mojo continued and they got another tally by Gutterman a minute later, this one assisted by Mikesch and Kosir giving Creek a 6-1 lead going into the intermission.
In the opening seconds of third period, Gutterman scored a short handed goal on a nifty pass from Mikesch, which gave Gutterman a hat trick on the evening! Kosir put the biscuit in the basket midway through the third with help from a Max Pezzot pass. The Beavers closed the scoring for the evening, when Gutterman again found the net off a pass from Mikesch. Bovair turned away 19 shots between the pipes for the Beavers. Freshman Ben Duford made his Beavercreek Varsity Hockey debut when he replaced Bovair in net at the end of the game, and turned away one shot. The Beavers are back at it Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM when they take on the Lexington Thoroughbreds at the Kettering Rec Center.
