Beavercreek faced Sycamore Saturday night for what was their season finale and more importantly Senior Night. Before the game, outgoing seniors Nick Belmonte, Gram Doherty, Chad Peacock, Braden Sanders, Shane Sanders, and manager Maggie Hergenrather were honored for their 3+ years of contribution to Beavercreek High School Varsity Hockey. On top of it being Senior Night, it was also the final game of SWOHSHL play and the winner of this game would get the number one seed in the end of the season tournament next weekend. Both teams came out firing on all cylinders and the game was scoreless midway through the first period when the Avs took a 5 minute boarding major. Creek made them pay 5 seconds into the penalty when Mason Mikesch beat the Avs goaltender on a pass from Cole Gutterman. A couple minutes later, Sycamore took another penalty and the Beavers took advantage of the 5-on-3 with a goal from Chad Peacock that was assisted by Mikesch. Creek tallied a third goal during the Avs major penalty when Enfield put the biscuit in the basket off the rebound from a shot from Alex Folga. Although the Beavers were up 3-0 going into the second, they kept the pressure on and were rewarded with a goal from Gutterman that was assisted by Mikesch and PJ Kosir. Midway through the second, the Avs finally got the puck past Creek goaltender Gram Doherty and cut the Beavers lead to 4-1. Doherty was sharp all game and ended up turning away 18 shots on the evening. Mikesch tallied another goal late in the second period on a pass from Braden Sanders putting Creek up 5-1, which ended up being the final score. With this victory, the Beavers captured the top seed in the SWOHSHL end of the season tournament next weekend and will face the La Salle Lancers Saturday morning at 10 AM at Northlands.
