The defensive intensity that Beavercreek brought Friday night against Alter carried on to Saturday night’s game against Troy, as the Beavers downed the Bruins 4-0. Assistant captain Gram Doherty was between the pipes for the Beavers and turned away 26 shots in recording his second shutout in as many days. Mason Mikesch continued his goal scoring prowess by scoring two goals in the first period, both of which were assisted by Alex Folga. It was white knuckle time again for the Beavercreek fans, as Creek only led 2-0 going into the third. Cole Gutterman put the fans at ease by scoring a pair of power play goals, the first assisted by Mikesch and the second assisted by captain PJ Kosir. The Beavers finished Mayor’s Cup play with a 2-1 record and ended up with a second place finish. Beavercreek is off for a much deserved Christmas break and are not back in action until Thursday when they play these same Troy Bruins in their opening round game of the Miami Valley Freeze tournament at 6 PM at Hobart Arena . Merry Christmas!!
