Your Battling Beavers defeated the Gahanna-Lincoln Golden Lions Saturday evening in a game filled with few scores and much drama. The first period saw no goals from either team. The second period had all the scoring of the game. Creek got on the board first with a goal from Sophomore Joey Donahue off an assist from Riley Hanson. Riley got another point when he scored off a rebound with four minutes left in the period. Gahanna got on the board after scoring with about two minutes left in the period. The Beavers went into the third period up 2-1. The third frame started normally and that’s when things got interesting. Junior Ben Duford was the lone goalie for the game as Freshman Ian Champagne was unavailable. Ben was lights out until two minutes into the period when he was run into by a Gahanna player and hit the ice hard. He was taken out of the game to follow the concussion protocol. With no backup goalie, Senior Alternate Captain Joe Bordas came out of retirement, put on Ben’s pads, borrowed a leftie stick, blocker, and glove from a Dayton Stealth player, and manned the net. Little did Gahanna know that Joe Bordas played goalie for Creek last season, and despite not playing goalie for over a year, he kept the Lions from scoring for the duration of the game with the help of some stingy Beaver defense. The Beavers held on and beat the Golden Lions 2-1. Well done Creek!
