At 9-2-1 in regular season play so far, Beavercreek’s 2021-2022 Varsity Hockey team is on pace to shatter the all-time win record of 23 set in 2005! Our team also went 3-0 in the Mayor’s Cup to capture this vaunted trophy for the fourth year in a row, including a 4-0 shutout against Springboro and a nail-biting OT win against Alter (see the game winning goal here: https://youtu.be/Jalbr73-HBk). In the 25th Annual Frozen Creek Tournament, Creek went undefeated in round robin play, but lost by one goal in the championship game to take the second place trophy.
Scoring is spearheaded by team captain senior Thomas Bush, who has 23 goals (and an impressive 4 hat tricks and 13 assists), followed by junior Joey Donahue, who has potted 10 goals (one hat trick and two assists). Other playmakers include junior alternate captain Riley Hanson (7 goals, 6 assists), sophomore Alex Elsner (6 goals, 6 assists), and junior alternate captain defenseman Carson Cox (11 assists). With the power play at 26%, the Beavers have been making other teams pay for taking penalties (and conversely sending few of our players to the box).
Creek’s stingy defense is reflected in 50 goals for vs. 26 goals against and a 92% penalty kill average. Creek’s goalies, senior Ben Duford, who has notched two shutouts, and sophomore Ian Champagne both have save percentages over 90%, with goals against just above 2 per game.
Beavercreek’s next 2 games will be on the road, facing Elder at 10am on January 2, 2022, at the Northlands Ice Center and Gahanna Lincoln at 2:30pm on January 4, 2022, at Nationwide Arena. Next home game at the Kettering Ice Arena will see the Beavers taking on Talawanda at 10pm on January 7, 2022.
