The Beavercreek Varsity Hockey team plowed through the weekend of Jan 23-25, 2015 with three wins over Sycamore 4-0, Elder 2-1, and Sycamore again 2-1 to clinch 1st place in their SWOHSHL division and improve their overall record to 17-12 on the season. The Battling Beavers shut out Sycamore in Cincinnati Friday night and returned home to the Kettering Rec Center to defeat Elder Saturday evening in the Pack-The-House/Pink-In-The-Rink breast cancer fundraiser night, and then beat Sycamore again at the Kettering Rec on Teacher Appreciation Day Sunday afternoon.
The Saturday night game was a fun-filled near-raucous affair with another huge contingent of Beavercreek fans cheering the team on and enjoying the game and the fun. The night saw a great live rendition of the National Anthem, sublime intros from Jack Snider and “The Crease”, the debut of the “Orange Men” and the first ever Chuck-A-Duck contest (with more than 150 ducks chucked!) between the second and third periods. The scoring for the Beavers started on a goal by Co-Captain and senior AC Coleman (assisted by junior Johnnie Ives), with goal number two and the game-winner coming from sophomore Ethan Green (with assists from senior Ryan Williford and senior and Assistant Captain Brandon Sanders). The Sunday win came on a well-attended Teacher Appreciation Day with two goals from senior Jake Weideling, who tied the Beavercreek single-season Points record held by Matt Green (2006-2010). Goalie Brian Daniels stopped 98 0f 100 shots for the three games for a .980 save percentage, bringing his career OSHAA state record save count to 3170.
Beavercreek plays Louisville Trinity next Friday night Jan. 30 at home at the Kettering Rec Center at 10:00pm, and then Alter at South Metro Sports on Saturday Jan. 31 at 3:00pm. The Friday night game is Student Appreciation Night with post-game pizza with the players. Mark you calendars and plug the event it into your phones: Friday Jan. 30 10pm at the Kettering Rec for another night of great hockey and fun!
