Beavercreek faced off against the Dayton Stealth JV team Saturday night for their third and final game of round robin play in the Miami Valley Freeze tournament at Hobart Arena. Both teams came out with a sense of purpose, but Creek was able to draw first blood early in the game when Joe Bordas slipped one past the Stealth’s goal tender off the rebound of a blocked Cole Gutterman shot. The game remained 1-0 until midway through the second period when the Stealth was able to get on the board with a goal of their own. However, in the closing seconds of the second period Mason Mikesch pounced on a loose puck on the Beavers own blue line, raced past the Stealth defensemen, and blasted a shot over their goal tender’s right shoulder, giving Creek as 2-1 lead at the break. Gutterman was able to light the lamp early in the third off a pass Mikesch, which extended Creeks lead to 3-1. Midway through the third, Joey Duford scored on a blast from the blue line that was assisted by Max Pezzot and Bradon Cox. The Beavers held on from that point and beat the Stealth 4-1. Ben Duford was between the pipes again for Creek and turned away 19 shots on the night.
Beavercreek ended up the second seed after round robin play, and will be playing in the Miami Valley Freeze Championship game against the Centerville Elks on Sunday morning at 11:30 AM at Hobart Arena. The game will be live streamed by Lee Mowen on Centerville’s YouTube channel.
