Your Battling Beavers played without two defensemen, started off a little rusty, but finished off the Troy Trojans Friday night with an 8-2 victory behind a hat trick from Sophomore Joey Donahue. The Trojans drew first blood on a power play goal early in the first period that bounced over Junior Goalie, Ben Duford. That was the only puck to sneak by Ben during his time on the ice. Junior Thomas Bush drilled home an unassisted goal (his 14th of the season) with ten minutes left in the period to even up the score. With the first period winding down, it looked like the teams would enter the break all tied up. That changed with less than five seconds left in the period when Joey Donahue scored on a rebound (his 3rd of the season) to put the Beavers up 2-1.
The second period was all Beavers with no Troy puck finding the back of the net. Thomas Bush got his second goal of the game with 1234 left in the period off a nifty backhand. The next score of the period came off the stick of Joey Donahue (his second of the game) with 220 left in the period. The Beavers went into the locker room for the ice cut with a 4-1 lead.
The third period started with the Beavers on the power play and Freshman Ian Champagne between the pipes. Sophomore Riley Hanson scored as the power play was winding down to put Creek up 5-1. Sophomore Ethan Webb drilled home a blue line shot from a faceoff won by Freshman Alex Elsner with 1120 left. Joey D secured his hat trick with a power play goal at 819 left in the game. The eighth unanswered Beaver goal came on a power play goal from Sophomore Riley Hanson with 630 left in the game. Troy scored the final goal of the game with 435 left in the game.
The Beavers secured the 8-2 win over the Trojans going into Sunday’s matchup with the Alter Knights.
