Beavercreek faced Troy for the third time in 8 days, this time in the third place game for the Miami Valley Freeze. The Trojans started the game with the same disciplined hockey they played two days ago against the Beavers and were rewarded with an early goal in the first period. The Beavers were able to tie the game up in second on a goal from Cole Gutterman, which was assisted by PJ Kosir. Unfortunately for Troy, they started to take penalties in the second and the period ended with a 5 minute major for boarding. Creek took advantage and scored two power play goals off of that major penalty. The first, which ended up being the game winner, was by Braden Cox and was assisted by Joey Dufford and Mason Mikesch. Mikesch scored the second goal off the major, which was assisted by Joey Duford. Mikesch capped off the scoring with another power play goal and the end of the third, this one coming off a nifty give and go play from Chad Peacock. Gram Doherty was in net for the Beavers and turned away 20 shots. The victory gave the Beavers a third place finish in the Miami Valley Freeze tournament, which was Creek’s third top three finish in the only three tournaments they’ve participated in this season. Next up for Beavercreek, is the Springboro Shootout, which will be held at South Metro Sports. Creek opens play Friday night against the Sycamore Aviators at 7:30 PM. Nice work this weekend boys!
