Your Battling Beavers took on the Olentangy Braves in the first round of the State Ice Hockey Tournament Saturday afternoon. This was a hard fought battle with some spectacular saves by Junior Goalie Ben Duford. The scoring started in the first period when Sophomore Riley Hanson stole the puck in the Braves zone and drilled home a goal with around ten minutes left in the frame. The remainder of the period saw both defenses hold strong with no more scoring. The second period belonged to the Braves as they scored off a deflection in front of the net with 13 minutes remaining. The teams went into the second intermission all tied up at one apiece. The third period saw the puck flying in both zones with great defense by both teams. The Braves finally found the back of the net with around two minutes left in the game to go up 2-1. Creek pulled Duford from goal to add another scoring threat. The Beavers took full advantage of the extra player and Riley Hanson got his second goal of the game to tie the match at 2-2 with a little over a minute remaining in the game. Regulation play ended with the game knotted at two apiece. Overtime started with action on both ends of the ice, but the Braves ended the match with a well placed top shelf corner shot. Even thought Creek did not advance in the State Playoffs, they’ll be back in action this Friday at South Metro in the annual Post Ohio Districts Tournament. Well done Creek!
