Creek Skates to a 1-1 Draw Against Alter

Beavercreek had a second game round robin match up of the POD Tournament against their SWOHSHL foes the Alter Knights on Saturday afternoon at the NTPRD Chiller.  The Knights to this point have been perfect in the tournament, securing all possible 10 points in their first two games and were not even scored against.  The Beavers knew that they need to play well against the Knights if they had any hopes of playing for the championship on Sunday.

This was a beautiful game to watch as both teams displayed grit, speed, and determination up and down the ice.  The teams had a number of grade ‘A’ scoring chances, but both goal tenders did a fantastic job to deny those attempts.  For Creek, it was freshman Ben Duford who got the start in net and he was stellar between the pipes, turning away 19 shots on the day.  The game remained scoreless until midway through the third period when the Knights pounced on an errant pass deep Beavers zone and scored, taking a 1-0 lead.  Creek kept the pressure on, however, and were finally rewarded late in the third on a power play opportunity when Mason Mikesch connected on a pass from PJ Kosir, tying the game at 1-1.  Both teams had more chances, but neither were able to score, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.  This was truly a great game to watch and hopefully was a prequel to the championship game on Sunday!

Next up for the Beavers is a Saturday night affair against the Indian Hill Rangers, which will be Creek’s final game of round robin play.
